Danish documentary series from 2026. Who are you when you suddenly no longer have your family and friends around you? When the culture is completely different. And you don't understand or speak the local language? Cornelius, Annabell, Bertram, Frida and Alberte set off alone into the world as exchange students. For a whole year, they'll be far away from both family and friends. In Japan, Brazil, Argentina, Italy and the USA, young people are grappling with loneliness, new languages, new cultures and the challenge of fitting in. New friendships, relationships and perhaps even a crush are blossoming. Is the hardest part actually leaving home – or coming back again?

1. Out of the comfort zoneCornelius says goodbye to his best friend Magnus and travels alone to the USA for a whole year. In Italy, Annabell meets her host family, and especially the host brother Matteo is a bit exciting. At the same time, Bertram lands in Argentina, where he suddenly gets a lot more attention than he is used to back home in North Jutland. 2. Do I fit in?Cornelius' new life resembles a real American movie with American football, yellow school buses and high school. But beneath the surface he also feels the fear of school shootings. Alberta is struck by the huge difference between rich and poor in Brazil. And several of the young people struggle with loneliness and the feeling of not fitting in, because the language becomes a wall between them and the others.CC27minAug 3, 2026
3. How do I make friends?Bertram goes to a party in the hope of finally finding friends in Argentina, but the party starts off completely wrong. Annabell and the host's brother Matteo have an argument. Maybe he means more to her than she thought? Alberte struggles to find the energy for all the new people and many impressions. Meanwhile, Cornelius falls more and more into the USA and finds a friend who knows exactly what it feels like to be far from home.CC23minAug 3, 2026
4. Episode 4Half of the year on exchange has already passed, and there is still much the young people want to achieve. Cornelius gets closer to his American host father during an honest talk about life and death, while Annabell struggles to tell Matteo how she really feels about him. 5. In love with my best friendAnnabell tells Matteo that she is in love with him, and suddenly everything changes. Bertram pushes himself a little too far to create a good life in Argentina. In Japan, Frida struggles with the thought that she will soon have to say goodbye to her perfect Japanese life. Cornelius ends up setting fire to the host family's garden.
