The pair began their first human trials in Melbourne in 2009 and, over the last 20 years, their company EnGeneIC has conducted trials in Australia and America. Their discovery uses a bacterial nano-cell loaded with chemotherapy to directly target cancer cells while also stimulating a potent anti-tumour immune response. This delivery system eliminates the harmful and life-defeating side effects of chemotherapy.
