And yet, in a defeated, humiliated country deprived in part of its male population, women were the first to react and initiate a spirit of resistance. Through five individual destinies, this collection highlights the crucial role played by women between 1940 and 1944.

At the Liberation, the return to normal life was not easy for the four survivors and the women of the Resistance. The gender order was re-established, and there was a crying lack of recognition for their work. Simonne Mathieu and Renée Davelly died anonymously.
