Comedian and farmer Jim Smith presents as teams of woodworkers travel the length and breadth of Scotland, visiting a different woodland each episode as they bid to impress the local judge. Visiting some of Scotland’s most magnificent woodlands, the teams cut, craft, create and camp in the great outdoors as they battle against the clock, their opponents and mother nature to lay claim to the Golden Axe.

- 1. Episode 1In this episode, team captains Linzi and Vicente each hope to lead their team to victory among the trees at Glenlude in the Scottish Borders. The teams are challenged to turn their felled spruce into something that will assist the many groups that are helping to rewild these woodlands. However, as the experts struggle with their timber and the sun beats down, can the teams stand the blistering heat as they look to shave, cut and fashion their timber into something spectacular and win over today’s judge?CCFeb 17, 2022
- 2. Episode 2This episode sees the woodworkers in a historic woodland in Stirlingshire, where Linzi and Vicente get their hands on some larch. The teams have been challenged to help this community woodland encourage local youngsters to connect with their outdoor environment. - 3. Episode 3This episode sees our experts head for the spectacular Isle of Skye. Team Linzi is inspired by local folklore, while Vicente and his crew have a feat of engineering to complete if they are going to win the Golden Axe. A former conifer plantation at Ringill on Skye is being thinned out to encourage native species to flourish, and the teams are making full use of the timber they fell. As their 24-hour deadline looms, the weather causes havoc with their plans, and not everyone emerges from their tents a happy camper. - 4. Episode 4In this episode, the teams visit the most northerly woodlands in mainland Scotland. Dunnet Community Woodlands have trees in danger of being blown over by the biting coastal winds, and the teams are challenged to transform them into something that will benefit the large number of locals who love these woodlands. However, with winds threatening the safety of the site, will the teams manage to complete their 24-hour challenge, and who will win the coveted Golden Axe?CCMar 10, 2022
- 5. Episode 5The teams are on the shores of Loch Goil in Cormonachan Community Woodlands. They must use their woodworking prowess to transform their timber into interactive works of art that will engage the locals and tourists who visit the area. Team Linzi are hoping to create a ‘musical woodland’, while team Vicente are attempting an abstract art sculpture inspired by the local wildlife.
