As the story unfolds, he finds himself faced with the daunting task of securing forty thousand pesos to pay off the mortgage on his beloved's estate. Meanwhile, a wealthy landowner finds himself indebted to an octogenarian moneylender. To absolve the debt, the moneylender proposes a peculiar arrangement: the landowner must marry his daughter.
